With the objective in mind to further expand the application areas of our systems and provide them to a widening range of users, we have developed the smartSCAN 3D-System. The smartSCAN 3D is especially designed for users who wish to obtain accurate and reliable digitisation results at a reasonable expense.

Always true to the mission of delivering highly precise 3D data sets, the smartSCAN 3D is the ideal system for high-end digitisation, particularly for applications in technical tasks, education, arts and cultural heritage. Its new, compact design provides easy, user-friendly handling and flexibility. Available as Basic or Duo system, the smartSCAN 3D can be set up with either one or two colour cameras and one projection unit. The smartSCAN 3D-HE measurement and digitisation system is the result of progressive development and enhancement of our successful smartSCAN 3D product line. Wherever high accuracy and resolution are of key importance, the mobile smartSCAN 3D-HE offers the optimum three-dimensional solution for your all your metrological tasks and challenges.

Precision and Performance

Characterised by its extremely fast data acquisition at a very high level of resolution, the smartSCAN3D-HE delivers highly accurate 3D coordinates within seconds for any kinds of objects, regardless of their size, geometry and complexity. The practical qualification and effectiveness of the system is proven in its daily application context, be it in the traditional measurement laboratory, the workshop setting or in a rough and demanding industrial production environment.

Application

Combining high performance and precise detail resolution with a broad choice of available measurement fields, the smartSCAN 3D-HE provides the perfect solution for any 3D task, especially in the fields of product development and quality control. Its application areas cover tasks such as inspection of sheet metal components in the automotive industry, mould making, tooling and quality control in product design as well as measuring and digitising projects in reverse engineering.

Fields of View

The smartSCAN 3D-HE comes with an extensive standard range of measuring fields, reaching from 100 mm all the way up to 1200 mm. Additional customised fields of view to capture smaller or bigger measuring areas can also be provided.

The fields of view are easily adjusted by exchanging the system lenses, and in case of larger adaptations by swopping the systems sensor base. The convenient and fast calibration as well as the adjusted laser pointers facilitate the setup adaptation.

naviSCAN Fast – Accurate – Reliable

These are the identifying words for today´s production development and optimisation, quality assurance and inspection, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping. To meet these requirements, optical metrology methods have been continuously developed, adapted and improved to produce 3D digitisation and measurement results of any sized or shaped object at a very high level of resolution and accuracy.

For more than two decades, Breuckmann and Metronor have been innovative outriders and leaders in the development and manufacturing of sophisticated and powerful systems used in the field of optical metrology. Given a very diversified and easily adjustable product spectrum, Breuckmann systems cover a wide range of technical applications such as reverse engineering, inspection, rapid prototyping, rapid design, surface inspection and many others. The Norwegian company Metronor AS in the meantime has developed an impressive range of high accuracy portable coordinate measuring systems (CMM) based on electro-optics.

The combination of a Metronor duo portable CMM and a Breuckmann stereoSCAN 3D white-light scanning system offers previously unknown flexibility and accuracy to users of portable measurement equipment.

While the Metronor duo system sets up a large working volume, the stereoSCAN 3D thanks to its unique configuration precisely and quickly scans areas up to one square meter per shot. With the help of the navigation target mounted to the back of the scanner, stitching several shots together works seamlessly and without any need of user interaction. Furthermore, the navigation target allows complete freedom for any movement and position of the scanner. During the scan sequence, the system even monitors and notices any movement of the scanner or part, thereby assuring most precise measurement and scan results.

Wyman Gordon in Worcester (MA, USA) is a major supplier of forgings to both military and commercial aerospace manufacturers. The naviSCAN 3D system is being used for first-article inspection as well as reverse engineering or shape verification of old tooling. Thanks to the unique configuration and capacity of the naviSCAN 3D, the specific challenges to obtain highly accurate data even in a hostile forging shop, e.g. the large dimensions of the components (measuring up to 27 ft / 9 m in length) and the very hot dies (up to 900 degrees), can be easily avoided.

stereoSCAN Maximum Flexibility and Accuracy

The stereoSCAN3D consists of two high resolution digital cameras and our patented MPT projection unit. The cameras are positioned asymmetrically at either side of the projector to deliver maximum performance with regard to precision and flexibility. The system is available with diverse camera resolutions: The stereoSCAN 3D with 1.4 MPixels and the stereoSCAN 3D-HE with 4.0 or 5.0 MPixels.

Flexibility

  • Given the asymmetrical camera set-up, three different triangulation angles of 10°, 20° and 30° are implemented within one system, enabling the user to access even those areas which are otherwise difficult or impossible to capture. Conveniently exchangeable lenses ensure a fast switching between different measurement areas. The camera modules are easily mounted in various positions on the sensor base.
  • Given this high level of flexibility, even smallest measurement areas can be reached without the need to change the sensor base.
Accuracy
  • Two digital cameras featuring 1.4 MPixels (stereoSCAN 3D) or 4.0 / 5.0 Mpixels (stereoSCAN 3D-HE) guarantee highest resolution and accuracy.
  • The carbon fibre base structure ensures optimum mechanical and thermal stability of the sensor.
  • An intelligent data management software implemented on the basis of strict quality criteria, provides the highest degree of data reliability.

Following its considerable success in the field of dental technology, the d-STATION3D has meanwhile been adapted and optimised for applications reaching far beyond this original application focus. The d-STATION 3D is the perfect tool for the automated digitisation of any kinds of small objects. DermaTOP-Blue Analysis of Skin Roughness, Wrinkles, Cellulitis

Our in-vivo scanner dermaTOP-blue was specially optimised for dermatological and cosmetic applications, for precise measurement and examination of human skin without the need of replicas.

The sensor is equipped with a narrow-band light source in the blue spectral range ensuring to depict the skin structure with optimum contrast. The result is an even more reliable analysis of roughness and other characteristic features of the dermal topography.

This narrow-band light source in the blue spectral range has a number of decisive advantages:

  • Blue light does not penetrate the skin deeply, and is well reflected from the surface. The improved contrast provides very accurate data of the dermal topography.
  • The extremely fast measurement (about 200 milliseconds) allows in-vivo data acquisition.
  • No replicas are required.
  • Nevertheless replicas can, of course, also be measured.
  • A digital camera featuring 1.384 x 1.036 pixels ensures best resolution and speed.
  • The objective lenses of the camera are easily exchangeable and cover the following measurement areas: 20 x 15 mm / 40 x 30 mm / 80 x 60 mm.
  • Images taken at different times can be compared by best-fit algorithms.
  • Apart from the DIN surface roughness parameters Rz and Ra, other useful analysis tools are available, e.g. histograms, graphic surface and volume comparisons.
  • Correlation with laser profilometry has been proven in detailed studies.
  • The sensor weights only 1.5 kg.
  • The system can be controlled by a laptop and is therefore highly portable.
  • Further applications concern, for example, the measurement of wounds and scars, and the analysis and quality control of leather.

OptoTOP-HE The High-End 3D Digitising System

The high-resolution digitising system optoTOP-HE is the result of consistent development of our well-established optoTOP system which has, over the last 15 years, become one of the most successful topometric measuring systems with several hundred installations worldwide.

Great Flexibility

The range of standard measuring areas has been further extended: The system is available with three standard sensor bases and nine measuring ranges, covering diagonals from 50 mm to 775 mm. Additional tele lenses and wide-angle lenses enable measurement areas between 30 and 1050 mm (diagonal). Furthermore, customised sensor configurations ranging from a few mm² to approx. 5 m² can be offered on request.

All measurement areas can be simply and swiftly adjusted by exchanging either the camera lens or the sensor base. At a weight of only 2 kg, the sensor can easily be mounted onto various positioning systems, such as robots and CMMs.
High Speed


The patented MPT (miniature projection technique) projection unit enables extremely rapid data acquisition within approximately one second.

High Accuracy

A carbon fibre base structure ensures optimum mechanical and thermal stability of the sensor. Calibration can be performed by the user himself within minutes, thus always ensuring a high degree of accuracy.

High Definition

Featuring 1.4 mega pixels (optionally 6.6 mega pixels) and a digital zoom, the digital camera provides maximum resolution.

faceSCAN The New Generation of our Successful faceSCAN Series

As latest development and new generation of Breuckmann's successful faceSCAN series, the faceSCAN-III offers fast and high quality data generation at optimum cost-effectiveness. By integrating a 1.4 mega pixel camera into the scanning sensor, in particular the performance to capture even tiniest surface texture details has been considerably improved.

All sensors of the faceSCAN-III use our proven miniaturized projection technique, allowing a very rapid data acquisition time in only 0.8 seconds per sensor. The system is therefore very insusceptible to movements of the person to be measured, delivering 3D represen­tations of facial expressions at remarkably authentic and natural looking results.

Application
In a project for the Spanish company Netcam - Futboltotal, we have had the honour to digitise the French National soccer team.

Two of Breuckmann’s latest faceSCAN-III systems have been used and within two hours, four views of each of the 21 players have been captured as three-dimensional data set. On the basis of this data, a 360° model of each player's head was generated. The resulting STL models could, with only minor modifications, be utilised for rapid prototyping and the production of action figures for the World Championship in 2006.
